Finding Quality Child Care

Quality child care is very much like parenting. It includes helping children to grow and learn; ensuring that they are safe and healthy, and supporting their physical and emotional development.

Infants (birth to 16 months)

Infants are dependent on their caregivers. Their principal needs involve feeding, napping, and especially cuddling since infants develop so quickly, its beneficial to find a provider who’s eager to share your child’s discoveries with you. Caregivers who have experience with infants are desirable.

Preschoolers (2-1/2 to 5 years)

Preschool children need group play with others and to develop more advanced social and physical Caregivers should help preschool children find a provider who’s eager to share your child’s discoveries with you. Preschoolers need access to crayons, puzzles, blocks dress-up clothing, picture books & physical activities.

Toddlers (16 months to 2-1/2 years)

Toddlers are more active and curious, requiring safe surroundings that they can freely explore. They need opportunities to exercise their creativity, and to practice motor skills and language skills. Caregivers should help toddlers develop by presenting activities such as art, music, storytime and physical activity.

School age (6 to 12 years)

Older children are more self reliant but they may not be ready to be home alone-even though they may try to persuade you otherwise. Before and after-school should go beyond what they learn in school and involve plenty of time with peers. Physical activity is important to this age group.
